Was trying to time the tail slap alarm just before the dive.... this is the closest I got was at a rapids photographing terns diving for fish on sunday and I kept hearing splashes... when I went closer I found out it was litterally hundreds of carp running a really shallow rapids to get to their spawning grounds.... snapped quite a few pics over about 30 minutes and even though I didnt have a polorizer with me I like how they turned out. Just a couple pics of many.

Very cool wolf. I heard about a spot the Shad are doing the same thing week before last here on the island. Of course given that it rained all week when I was home the river has come up enough one won't be able to see them next week. Then again it will be sunny and hot all this week while I'm away...so maybe...lol

This guy had me runnin for cover.... Hunted his way right up the lane twds me and didn't realize I was there. When it did it took a sec to think,up went its tail and straight for me. I knew as long as it was running twds me I was safe and even if it turned to spray I would be at least running away from it. Fastest I've moved in a while...lmao!

more whales!!! And a breach to boot.... WOOT!!! well I'm back.. trip was longer than I thought but at least now I can talk about it Went to the northern tribal regions of Pakistan to try and shoot snow leopards.... took a month to track one down but finally got the shots Pics to follow as soon as I find out which will not be used by the people who sent me there for them. Didnt want to mention where I was before cause I didnt want it publically known I was in that region at that time... pretty easy to figure out why. Good to be back

very cool kpr... those ppl on the boat must have had quite the thrill seeing that fin come up beside the boat that close... the pic gives a decent perspective of the size of just the fin... amazing... whales.. I never get bored of them and seeing pics of them.
I'm back in town for a few weeks now before heading out for the bears... hopefully get a chance to get out around here for some pics I hope... been way too long.

They are very co-operative whales. The boats don't "really" approach them just go near and stop and the whales make their way over for a look. Alot of people get sprayed one way or another in the run of a day. I kinda feel for the whales as there is no let up out there. 5-6 boats at a time alllllll day EVERYday they can. It ...HAS... to have an effect on the whales and the babies are growing up knowing/learning it. When they come that close to boat loads of people, zodiacs especially getting an idea of size isn't an issue for most. I gave a description of that one breaching on another forum...
"Imagine a tractor trailer jumping like a trout for a fly...." was told it gave a clear pic...lol

LMAO good explaination kpr.... dont want to sound too much like a tree hugger here but ya... I agree about what effect that type of constant behavior will have long term... guess my biggest fear, and many will say it wont happen again, is that even if its a slight possiblility the idea that if whaling were to start up again they wouldn't stand much of a chance seeing how accustomed they are becoming to human contact.... it would litterally be a slaughter.
This was the first year in many that the Japanese put 25 humpbacks back onto their whale quota again for the year... usually they set a quota of around 800 minke and around 50 greys... trying to throw humpbacks back into the quota scares me. I know many ppl on the east coast cant stand the man but Mr. Watson needs to kick a bit more butt down in Antarctica imho.
